A safe and natural cosmetic dermal filler, Restylane restores volume and fullness to the skin. It corrects facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and also provides excellent lip enhancement.
Restylane is made of NASHA or Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid, a crystal-clear gel that is completely biocompatible with the human body’s own hyaluronic acid. Also, Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. Hydrophilic or "water loving," each molecule of the NASHA binds to more water as the Restylane gradually degrades. Over time, therefore, Restylane provides lasting results as the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid.
Dr. Klein, who pioneered collagen lip injections in 1984, injects fillers not just in and along the lips but also from the jaw line to the mouth to create, as he says, "flying buttresses that support the lip." His procedure takes 45 minutes on average, and he advises patients to be wary of doctors who allot much less time.
He also warns patients to stay away from permanent fillers — such as silicone or Artecoll and Aquamid (gels that contain microscopic plastic beads) — that the FDA has not approved as lip plumpers. He prefers fillers that last only six months (i.e. Restylane).
